TADA! at DDF
For 25 years, the Drama Desk Award-winning TADA! Youth Theater has been offering its exciting Musical Theater classes at their theater on West 28th Street. Now Downtown Dance Factory is pleased to bring this great program downtown to the heart of Tribeca! Your budding Musical Theater artist can now join the approximately 30,000 kids who have been trained in or exposed to Musical Theater, drama and playwriting through TADA!’s great programs.
TADA!’s Arts Educational Programs were established in order to teach youth of all ages the basic and continuing skills of Musical Theater, as well as building children’s creative thinking skills and self-esteem. TADA!’s unique model engages students in the power of learning through exploration and enjoyment of the arts. The specific objectives are to appreciate the ways in which the three art forms of acting, dancing, and singing are synthesized to form Musical Theater pieces; to learn how to cooperate and work together as a team, gaining confidence, learning commitment, responsibility and effective communication skills; and to gain a sense of accomplishment in presentation of the students’ work to their classmates, family and friends.
In the Musical Theater Skills courses offered at Downtown Dance Factory, students learn the music, dance and theater skills needed to become competent Musical Theater actors. Music is drawn from Broadway and Off-Broadway as well as TADA!'s repertoire of over thirty original musicals which were written expressly for performance by children.
Each class is staffed by two dedicated professional Teaching Artists, a Writer/Director and a Composer/Music Director, both of whom are always in the classroom. This signature approach models ensemble values and fosters cooperation. Children not only learn through the making of ensemble theater, but also through observing the successful collaboration between the Teaching Artists. Team teaching also enables more individualized attention tailored to students’ learning strengths and diverse learning styles.
