This past March, Downtown Dance Factory dancers were thrilled to be featured on the stage of NYC’s iconic Joyce Theater at the NYCDA Foundation’s annual “Destiny Rising” show. Our dancers performed alongside top professional companies such as Complexions, Parsons Dance, ABT and Sidra Bell Dance New York, as well as some of the nation’s elite college dance programs like Pace University and Arizona State. In two fabulous pieces, both choreographed by Emmy Award winning choreographer and DDF favorite teacher Al Blackstone, our dancers did us proud!

DDF Dancers Join Kids Breaking League at NYC PAC!
This past weekend, our DDF breaking program partnered with the Kids Breaking League, a program run by DDF Breaking teacher Kid Glyde. They performed at the beautiful brand new Perelman Performing Arts Center just blocks from DDF. What a great way to help celebrate 50 years of Hip Hop! Thanks to all the DDF families who came out to watch and support, and even battle!

Congratulations to DDF dancer and 2024 Young Arts Winner Charlie Head! Young Arts is a prestigious competition that recognizes the top high schoolers in arts from across the Nation. Charlie was recognized as a Winner with Distinction in Jazz, with his solo choreographed by DDF’s Al Blackstone AND as a Winner in Modern/Contemporary. What an honor… We are so proud of you Charlie!

DDF performs at “Christmas in Italy”
This past weekend, fourteen DDF dancers from our Company classes performed at Cristina Fontinelli’s 20th Annual “Christmas in Italy” concert at the Kaufman Music Center! Dancing to a piece choreographed by DDF’s own dancing alumna and teacher, India Dobbie, these dancers gave two fabulous performances dancing to Jewel’s version of O Holy Night. Congratulations dancers!

So Much Fun at StoryDance Playgroup!
We had a blast dancing with so many little ones at DDF’s FREE StoryDance Playgroup in late October. Along with about 20 participants and their grown-ups, we danced, we read stories, we played games with scarves and bears. And to top it all off, we had a beautiful ballerina performance at the end as a special treat! Keep an eye out for our next StoryDance Playgroup!

DDF Wins “Best Musical Theater”!
On October 18th, DDF Owners Hanne and Melanie attended the Industry Dance Awards in Hollywood, California! The entire event was amazing, complete with a red carpet, celebrity hosts and honorees (including THE Shirley MacLaine!), and an evening of awards in various dance genres and for outstanding achievements and artistic contributions. Most notably, the event raises money for Dancers Against Cancer, and this year, over $100,000 was raised!
We are so excited to report that DDF’s “No Business”, choreographed by the fabulous Al Blackstone for our 2023 competition season and expertly danced by 7 of our super talented DDF dancers, won the IDF award for Best Musical Theater! Congrats to all!
