Protocols and Procedures in the time of COVID-19

Keeping our Dancers Safe - When In-Studio Classes Resume

We are thrilled to announce that dance studios have been given the go-ahead to reopen with strict safety protocols in place. See below for Downtown Dance Factory's plan to keep our dance community safe.

DDF Health & Safety Protocols and Procedures

  • Classes are limited in size to ensure adequate distancing, and therefore vary by studio.
  • Class times are staggered to avoid crowding.
  • Breaks are scheduled between classes to clean and air out studios.
  • Masks must be worn by everyone at Downtown Dance Factory, both in the lobby and in the studios.
  • The studio floors are taped with 6’x6’ boxes to ensure appropriate distancing.
  • Faculty maintain proper distance from students and will provide verbal corrections only. Dancers excel at spacing!
  • Temperatures are checked and hands sanitized upon arrival.
  • Frequently touched surfaces are cleaned thoroughly and at regular intervals.
  • Waiting areas on both floors are closed to families and caregivers. Dancers instead are escorted by DDF Staff up to our studios (exceptions for preschool-aged classes).
  • Dressing rooms are closed and water-fountains turned off.
  • Dancers exit using the alternate staircase to promote unidirectional pedestrian traffic.
  • Touchless hand-sanitizer stations are installed in the waiting areas and all studios, and touchless soap and paper towel dispensers are installed in all bathrooms.
  • Upgrades have been completed for the whole building to increase outside fresh air intake, and the building has install MERV-13 compliant filters, said to be best practice for COVID minimization.
  • All staff are required to complete a daily health assessment.
  • All students/families/staff who have any form of illness are asked to dance from home, and are expected to adhere to government regulations regarding quarantine and isolation after travel or exposure.

Fall 2020 Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures

In order to maintain the safety and health of our dance community, we have worked incredibly hard to create a system for drop-offs and pick-ups that will keep us all dancing!  Our procedures are below OR you can also watch this fun short video to see them in action!

* These systems differ for preschool-age dancers. Please click here to read those below.

Drop-Off

  • Your dancer must arrive wearing a mask and full uniform, carrying a small bag with a full water bottle and dance shoes. Please have your dancer use the restroom prior to arrival.
  • Dancers must stay home if they are feeling unwell, exhibit any symptoms (cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, fever, loss of taste/smell), have had any exposure to a positive COVID case or have traveled to an area for which quarantine is required. Dancers who are unable to attend In-Studio will be able to log in to the class via Zoom. Zoom codes for each class are available in your parent portal.
  • Dancers will not enter at the 291 Broadway entrance, but instead at the door next to 56 Reade Street.
  • Dancers should arrive no more than 10 minutes prior to their class, at which time the Reade Street door will be opened. This will allow time for:
    • temperature check at the door
    • lining up (6 foot distanced) on the stairs
    • walking up to their floor for class
  • Families and caregivers will say goodbye to dancers at the Reade St door after their temperature has been taken, and DDF Staff will check them in and escort them to class. DDF lobbies will be closed for the time being.

Pick-Up

  • Pick-up will occur in the 291 Broadway lobby.
  • Please arrive at 291 Broadway at the exact time your dancers class ends. Please do not arrive late as your timeliness factors into our ability to function effectively and safely. If you are late, you will need to call DDF to determine where to collect your dancer. Please do not come up to the DDF space.
  • If permitted by parents, dancers may self-dismiss. If you would like to allow your child to self-dismiss, you MUST fill out the Dismissal Form here.

What if My Dancer Takes More Than Once Class in a Row ...

  • Between classes, they will wait in the common area, where spots will be designated 6’ feet apart.
  • They may bring a tidy snack for between classes. Remember the Studio 4 store is closed and only available online.
  • They can choose a uniform from one of their classes that day to wear for all classes since dressing rooms will be closed. Remember to send all necessary shoes.
  • If there is a break longer than 45 minutes, dancers will need to leave the building and return to the Reade St entrance 10 minutes prior to their next class time.

Preschool-age Dancer Drop-off and Pick-Up Procedures

Drop-off

  • Dancers and one grown-up should enter at the 291 Broadway lobby, and take the elevator to their designated floor. If you're not sure which floor/studio, please check your parent portal where studios are listed. Studios 1,2,3 are on the 5th floor. Studios 5,6,7/8 are on the 4th floor.
  • Please arrive no more than 10 minutes prior to class time. Upon arrival at the designated floor, we will check the dancers' temperature.
  • Your dancer must arrive wearing a mask and full uniform, as dressing rooms are closed. Dancers may bring a water bottle into the studio, but all other belongings should remain with their grown up.
  • Please have your dancer use the restroom prior to arrival.
Zoom codes for each class will be available in your parent portal.
  • With the exception of TutuTots (in which grown-ups take class with their dancer), parents/caregivers must leave the premises once their dancer lines up and until the end of class. Strollers may be left onsite for your convenience.

Pick-Up

  • Please arrive back at the designated floor at the exact time that your dancers class ends. Please do not arrive late as your timeliness factors into our ability to function effectively and safely.
  • Please plan to leave the premises as soon as you are reunited with your dancer to ensure the safety and health of all the dancers here.

Important Notes for Preschool-Age Dancers

  • We will have staff available to take your dancer to the restroom during class, if necessary.
  • We have your phone number on file but if you'd like to add any other caregivers, please login to your parent portal to add them by clicking on "Billing & Payments" and then "Contacts" .
  • Remember the Studio 4 store is closed and only available online, so please take care of any uniform needs in advance via our online store.
